Bouldering is a form of rock climbing which takes place on boulders and other small rock formations or indoor walls that typically measure less than 20 feet (6.1 m) from ground to top, but in some cases can measure up to 30+ ft. Unlike top rope climbing and lead climbing, no ropes are used to protect or aid the climber.
No, you can hire them on site for a small fee. If you have booked a lesson, shoes and chalk hire are included in the price.
Yes. We welcome climbers of all abilities, including the ‘never-evers.’ We have a special Induction Lesson that we highly recommend – no equipment necessary, just bring yourself. Click here for more info. If you’re climbing for the first time, you’ll need to either be in a lesson, join our Induction, or be with a supervisor.
Yes. We have a wide range of lessons available for climbers of all experience.
Yes. After registering, there is a range of access from single-entry to annual memberships.
This depends on the age and experience level of the children. Please refer to our Under 18s policy. To be sure that they are well supervised, you could always book the kids into a lesson with one of out instructors.
Yes, we have fully equipped showers and changing facilities, including some super-cool lockers from the Rio Olympic Village.
We do (are you sure we can’t tempt you with bouldering?). We are excited to have a mezzanine yoga studio offering numerous classes throughout the week and a climbing focussed gym area. We also have a a well stocked café and bar. There are plenty of chill-out and viewing areas around the centre, so why not relax with a drink and get a feel for what we’re about…you’ll be a convert in no time!
Yes. But we have limited spaces. There is off site parking available but please refer to the local council website for parking times.
On your first visit to Stronghold Climbing Centre, you will be asked to fill in a Supervisor Assessment, which will be checked by a member of our team. On successful completion, you’ll be able to supervise a maximum of 2 people (1 if under 6 years of age).
You do not have to make any booking if you don’t require a lesson. However, we strongly suggest filling out our pre-registration form (coming soon!) before arriving so that you can get climbing as quickly as possible.
